Two people were seriously injured when their speeding Lexus veered off Lake Shore Drive and flipped over on a frozen lagoon in Lincoln Park early Monday morning.
Police were called to the 2200 block of North Lake Shore Drive around 1:45 a.m., after getting reports of a car crashing into the Diversey Harbor lagoon in Lincoln Park, according to Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.
Jose Estrada, 24, is facing two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and two felony counts of aggravated DUI resulting in death, according to a Chicago Police Department statement.
Estrada, of the 1200 block of North Kedzie Avenue, was also cited with failure to reduce speed and is scheduled to appear in bond court Monday afternoon.
Police said Estrada was driving a 2002 Buick about 10:10 p.m. Saturday in the 4300 block of West North Avenue in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side when he struck two people who were walking across the street.
