Off-duty Cook County sheriff's officer robbed, shot at in Lake View

An off-duty Cook County sheriff’s officer was robbed in an alley in the Lake View neighborhood on the North Side late Wednesday evening, police said.

The off-duty officer was in the 1900 block of West Belmont Avenue when two masked male offenders came up to him and announced a robbery around 11:30 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.

One of the offenders then fired his weapon, and the officer returned gunfire, Alfaro said. The two offenders fled with the officer’s cell phone and an unknown amount of money, Alfaro said.

The officers did not suffer gunshot wounds
