The scam worked, that call just cost you between 29 and 69 bucks, which shows up on your next phone bill. Your phone carrier says, to bad so sad you have to pay. You made the call which went to Jakarta, Indonesia, Nigeria.
The scamers have now become more sophisticated. They are now plugging in the name of a local hospital or even the local police dept. They call, they hang up They call, they hang up. You thinking it's some sort of emergency, call them back. They got you again.
We received 6 calls today form one of the local hospitals. Each time I answered, the call disconnected. The scary part was that the number shown on the caller ID had the correct area code. I looked up the number for the hospital, not even close not even the correct prefix. I called the hospital and they confirmed that the number did not belong to them.
Do Not call back if the caller hangs up or disconnects when you answer, no matter who or where the call ID says it is from. Unless the call is from someone you know and the ID displays their name and number. Do not use REDIAL for ANY of these calls. If you think the call is from someone you know, dial their number direct, do not use redial.
