New Gov. Bruce Rauner was involved in a Loop car crash Wednesday morning while being driven to the James R. Thompson Center, but Illinois State Police said he was not injured.
The governor was traveling in a routine state police motorcade from his downtown home to the state office building when the accident occurred, officials said.
The governor’s motorcade was stopped at a red light at Michigan Avenue and Randolph Street about 8:15 a.m., preparing to head west on East Randolph when two vehicles collided. One spun out of control and struck the vehicle Rauner was in and another private vehicle, according to a statement issued by outgoing Illinois State Police Director Hiram Grau.
