Adam Wisneski, 31, Has Bike Stolen from Chicago Police Station As He Files Report for Stolen iPhone

A Chicago man had his bike stolen from a police station lobby as he filed a report on his stolen iPhone.

A Logan Square man is trying to figure out how his bike was stolen right from under his nose – and the noses of Shakespeare District police officers.

Adam Wisneski, 31, went to the police station Friday night around 9 p.m. to report his iPhone stolen. He had lost it on an “L” train about a month ago, he said, and was recently contacted by someone who purchased the phone, asking for its access code.

He rode his bike, a black SE Lager, to the police station, 2150 N. California Ave., but left his lock at home. Wisneski asked officers if it was OK if he left it in the foyer of the station. When they said it was OK, he filed the police report, which he said took about 30 minutes.

That’s when the unthinkable happened.

“I turned around and my bike was gone,” Wisneski said. “I thought it was a joke. I thought someone was messing with me.”

But it wasn’t a joke. The bike was gone in a brazen theft as police officers staffed the station.
