Bean Bag Shotgun Disappears from Malibu Station Patrol Car - After driving from the Malibu Station to Hollywood on a case, a pair of deputies realized their trunk was open and their gun was gone

A beanbag shotgun went missing tonight after being placed in a patrol car from the sheriff’s Malibu/Lost Hills Station, authorities said.

Two deputies from the station placed the weapon, which had yellow markings on it and was in a black canvas carrying case, in the trunk of their vehicle at the station in Agoura Hills about 7:30 a.m., officials said.

“They then left the station to handle an area child abuse call that was reported at a hospital in Hollywood,” according to a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department statement.

The deputies were at the Hollywood (101) Freeway exit ramp at Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood when someone flagged them down and informed them that their trunk was ajar, according to the sheriff’s department.

They pulled over and found the case and the gun were gone, officials said.

Deputies and officers from the Los Angeles Police Department and California Highway Patrol conducted a search, with assistance from an air unit, along the route the deputies took but were unable to find the chrome-colored shotgun, which was loaded with four beanbag rounds and stamped “Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, officials said.
