Alderman Rey Colon was acquitted Monday of drunken driving, a development sure to make his re-election effort easier in the weeks ahead.
Cook County Circuit Court Judge James Pieczonka made the not-guilty ruling at the conclusion of a short bench trial, during which a video recording of Colon's July 25 arrest was played.
Although Colon can be seen on the video putting his arms out to the side to keep his balance while trying to stand on one foot during field sobriety tests, Pieczonka noted that Colon was able to walk in a straight line and stand "quite rigid and straight" during the rest of the tests.
