A taxi driver was killed in an attempted armed robbery Thursday evening in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, according to police.
The driver was from Chicago Carriage Cab and was fatally shot in the chest in the 1200 block of South Albany Avenue around 8:45 p.m., police said.
According to preliminary information from police, the victim was a 51-year-old man. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
It's unclear if the suspect, who was a customer of the driver, got away with anything from the cab, police said. Money was left behind in the cab.
