The Chicago Teacher's Union will honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at a breakfast event Thursday morning.
The event is set to take place at 9 a.m. at the Kroc Center on the city's South Side. Dozens of community leaders will be on hand to honor the late civil rights pioneer.
CTU President Karen Lewis is expected to present the inaugral Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Vanguard Award to Rev. Dr. William J. Barber. It will be one of Lewis' first appearances since being diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor.
Following the breakfast, Rev. Barber will speak at 4 p.m. at an evening rally at Trinity United Church of Christ, 400 W. 95th Street. The event is open to the public.
