Two people, including a 16-year-old boy, were killed and at least five others were wounded in shootings in Chicago overnight.
The 16-year-old boy was fatally shot in Bronzeville around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
The boy was walking through a vacant lot in the 300 block of East Pershing Road when he was approached by two gunmen, said Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro. They opened fire and hit the 16-year-old in his chest, abdomen and legs, police said.
The teen was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead at 10:10 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
He was identified as Terrell Campbell, of the 8800 block of South Wabash Avenue, according to the medical examiner.
Following the shooting, police taped off the entire vacant lot on the southwest corner of East Pershing Road and South Calumet Avenue as detectives investigated.
