Two men with shaky pasts were shot, one of them fatally, near a Brighton Park elementary school on the Southwest Side early Tuesday evening, according to police.
An 18-year-old was shot in the arm and back, and a 21-year-old was shot in the face about 5 p.m. in the 4200 block of South Rockwell Street, police said.
Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital -- the older man in critical condition and the younger in serious condition. The 21-year-old later died, Chicago police spokeswoman Bari Lemmon said.
Shields Elementary School is on that block.
